Chatham OPP and Ontario Parks officials will be cracking down on people caught with alcohol in Rondeau or Wheatley provincial parks over the Victoria Day Long weekend.
The alcohol ban took effect 10 days before to the statutory holiday on May 20.
Police say it is a “zero tolerance” policy, meaning anyone found with alcohol within the parks may face charges and a park eviction without being able to re-enter any provincial park for 72 hours.
“The Ontario Provincial Police will be using all available resources and personnel over the Victoria Day weekend, to crack down on aggressive drivers, distracted drivers, those who drink and drive and those who fail to buckle up,” says Chatham-Kent OPP detachment commander Brad Coulbeck.
The registered owner of a campsite in a provincial park is liable for any violations that occur on that site, according to legisaltion. Park wardens have all the full authority of a police officer when working within the park.
