Athletes have already started arriving, and in some cases training, for the FINA World Swimming Championships, which begin on Tuesday.

Windsor is welcoming about 1,000 athletes from more than 176 countries to the event.

This is the first time the event has been held in Canada and will showcase on a global stage what Windsor has to offer.

About 35,000 spectators are expected to compete in the elite competition.

Almost 50 races will be held during the six days of competition at the WFCU Arena.

Athletes had the chance to have their first practice Saturday in the WFCU temporary pool constructed for the event.
