The Leamington Chamber of Commerce is launching a feasibility study into the growth of the greenhouse industry.
The year-long study will look into a Greenhouse Centre of Excellence, that would offer post-secondary programs for skills development in the agri-business sector.
Ghamam Consulting has been hired to carry out the year-long study. It is being funded with a $75,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
President Denise Ghanam says the centre would have a positive impact on the economy and create more jobs.
"The potential for future careers and the impact that could have in terms of people being able to stay in this community and have successful vibrant careers is important to the business sector. That's obviously the goal" says Ghanam.
The chamber envisions the centre becoming an example for the agri-business sector in all of Canada.
MPP Rick Nicholls tells CTV Windsor this centre “would put Leamington on the map.”
A steering committee will meet in the new year and begin background research before meeting with community stakeholders
