Asian Carp found last week in Lake Erie has been found to be fertile.
A spokesperson with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says a lab in Burlington determined the grass carp was capable of reproducing.
As a result the province stepped up surveillance.
Two field crews started a combination of trap netting, gill netting and electro-fishing on Monday.
The carp was caught by a commercial fisherman on Friday morning.
