Justin Trudeau made two stops in the Windsor-Essex region in the past year, most recently just a few weeks ago.

Less than 24 hours after he became the latest federal Liberal leader, people in Windsor are hopeful for his success.

Others say despite not knowing much about the 41-year- old, they remember his father Pierre and they say that's enough for them feel optimistic about the new leader.

Cheryl Collier, political science professor at the University of Windsor feels that inexperience isn't a major drawback for Trudeau.

"Who's experienced when it comes to being a leader of a party? A lot of people aren't,” says Collier. “Think of Brian Mulroney coming in he really didn't have a lot of experience and some people are even drawing connections to Ronald Regan."
