Windsor's mayor took his plans of hosting next year’s Ontario Summer Games to Essex County council Wednesday evening, in the hopes of winning over partners willing to share the cost of staging the event.

Hosting the games will cost the city $1,200,000.

However, if the county comes on board with an even split the price tag will be reduced to $600,000 for each jurisdiction

Without the support, Eddie Francis says the bid would have to be less ambitious. “We would sit down with the Sports Alliance of Ontario. We would look at scaling back some events so we could host the 2014 summer games.”

Several county mayors made it clear if the county participates, an effort to host as many games in the region must be made.

Administration is expected to return to county council with a report on the practicality of cost-sharing the summer games.

That report is expected to be presented at the county's next meeting Nov. 2.
