The Town of Lakeshore is providing sand and sand bags to property owners who feel precautionary measures are in their best interest, in low lying areas.
Town officials say they are in regular contact with the Essex Region Conservation Authority, who is monitoring water levels on municipal rivers including Puce and Pike Creek.
ERCA has not advised of any additional threat of flooding on these rivers.
Town officials report that all systems are clear and functioning to their capacity. Crews have been working around the clock checking to ensure pumps are functioning and levels are dropping.
Environment Canada says Belle River had 94 to 115 millimetres of rain, as of 8 a.m. Friday. Tecumseh got 180 to 195 mm.
The sand and sand bags will be available at the Centennial Park parking lot (1031 County Road 22) next to the Fire Hall.
Sand bags will be available on site beginning at 12 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Residents are reminded to bring their own shovels.
The town would like to urge caution around all rivers. Individuals, including children and pets are recommended to stay away from the rivers as they are fast flowing and banks may be unstable due to the rain.
