Windsor police have a suspect in custody after a woman was stabbed on Ottawa Street.

Officers say it happened around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning near Ottawa and Hall Avenue.

Investigation revealed that an 83-year-old female was walking in the area when she was approached from behind by an unknown man. 

Police say the man stabbed the female multiple times in the facial area and fled the scene.  He was last seen running south on Hall. 

The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.  

Investigation also revealed that the suspect discarded his plaid jacket and shirt as he fled from the scene.  

The suspect may be armed with a weapon, members of the public should not approach the suspect and call police if he is seen. 

Greater Essex County District School Board officials say two schools in the area, Giles Campus French Immersion Public School and Prince Edward Public School, were placed in hold and secure Wednesday afternoon. It was lifted around 4:30 p.m.

Two schools were impacted with the Catholic board as well, but students were released earlier in the afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing.
