A bail hearing is set for Friday for one of two suspects accused of stealing the car of missing Halifax woman, Loretta Saunders.
Blake Leggette, 25, was brought into a Halifax, NS courthouse Tuesday morning, for the first time since being transferred from Windsor. While Leggette didn’t appear in court, his defence lawyer John Black was there on his behalf.
Leggette will remain in police custody until his bail hearing on Friday.
At the same time, officers with Halifax Regional Police will be in Windsor Tuesday to pick up Leggette’s 28-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Henneberry.
The two are charged with one count of possession of stolen property.
The judge told Leggette not to contact Henneberry while he remains in custody at a Halifax jail.
Halifax police are still looking for information from the public about a taxi that was parked in the area where Saunders was last seen.
Investigators say the cab was parked in a roundabout at the front entrance of an apartment building around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 13. Saunders was last seen that morning in the same area.
Her family reported her missing on Feb. 17.
Police say they've determined who the driver was, who earlier they said could be a potential witness in Saunders' disappearance.
Three Ontario charges against the pair, which include possession over stolen property, possession under stolen property, and possession of used credit card, have all been stayed by the Crown.
Essex County OPP arrested Hennenberry and Leggette after the vehicle belonging to Saunders was found in Harrow, Ont. on Tuesday.
The case of Saunders, 26, who is also pregnant, is being treated as suspicious and the RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.
Originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, Loretta has been a student at Saint Mary's University for the past three years and is an aspiring lawyer. She recently completed a thesis on murdered and missing women.
Anyone who may have seen Loretta or her car, a blue Toyota Celica with Newfoundland and Labrador plate HCP 543, is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
Loretta is described as an Inuk woman, 5'7" tall, 120 pounds with straight, light brown hair.
