Windsor police have identified the victim of Saturday’s early morning stabbing in the downtown area.
Gautham (Kevin) Kugathasan, 19, was a University of Windsor student. Police say his family is from Scarborough.
He was pronounced dead after being transported to hospital following an altercation between two groups of men at Pelissier Street and University Avenue.
Police say there was a confrontation around 2 a.m. that continued for a block and resulted in multiple stabbings.
Five other men suffered injuries and two of the men remain in hospital, but are expected to recover.
Police are calling the death a murder and an autopsy has been scheduled for Sunday in London.
Investigators and forensic personnel have evidence from the downtown scene which will be examined at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto, police say.
Several areas of the downtown area were cordoned off for crime scene examination, which was completed late Saturday afternoon.
Investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing multiple videos from businesses, residences and city cameras, which captured the events.
No charges have been laid, but police have identified people of interest and expect to lay charges soon.
Police are still asking anyone with information to come forward.
