A Windsor police canine helped catch a suspect following a break and enter at a home in west Windsor.
Police were called to a house in the 300 block of Curry Avenue on Tuesday at 12:55 a.m.
The residents came home and discovered that the front door was open. When they looked inside the house, they saw a suspect moving stereo speakers, according to police.
The homeowner screamed at the suspect and he ran out the back door. Police had already been called and they arrived shortly afterwards.
Officers saw a man running in the 400 block of Curry Avenue. A canine unit was deployed, picked up on a scent and tracked it to the backyard of a nearby house.
The dog began barking at some bushes by a chain link fence. The dog handler used a flashlight and could see the suspect hiding on the opposite side of the fence.
Police told the suspect not to move, but he began to run across the rear yard. The handler warned him and then sent the canine.
The canine, named Vegas, jumped the fence and apprehended the suspect. He was placed under arrest and transported by ambulance to hospital for treatment of puncture wounds to his left arm.
Laurent Brown, 39, has been charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property.
