LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan officials are considering whether to expand coyote hunting in the state as part of an effort to deal with complaints about the animals in residential areas.
The Times Herald of Port Huron reports the Natural Resources Commission at its March meeting plans to consider a recommendation on the issue.
Currently, coyotes may be killed in daylight statewide from July 15 to April 15 and they can be hunted at night from Oct. 15 to March 31.
The newspaper says the state Department of Natural Resources proposes expanding the day and night coyote season to year-round, but would keep a ban on hunting with dogs from April 16 to July 7.
The order also would clarify regulations for when and where nighttime hunters may use artificial lights.
