A lawsuit has been filed following a Highway 401 crash that killed two people, including a teenager.
Law firm Paciocco and Mellow represents the family of 13-year Alyssa Smulders and her uncle Marc Lafontaine, who launched the suit against Novak Trucking and driver, Leszek Urbaniak.
Smulders and Lafontaine were killed on the 401 near Mull Road in Chatham-Kent in May, 2014.
“The Smulders and Lafontaine family have experienced a tragedy that no family should have to endure,” said lawyer Gino Paciocco in a news release.
Police investigators say Lafontaine was travelling east on the highway when a transport crossed through the median and struck his vehicle head-on.
Urbaniak, 57, from London, was sentenced on May 5, 2016. He must pay a $2,000 fine and will not be allowed to drive a commercial vehicle for two years.
Urbaniak is also prohibited from driving a personal vehicle for one year.
