Leamington is another stop closer to the return of harness racing.
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain tells CTV News that Leamington and Dresden Raceways, along with Hiawatha Horse Park in Sarnia, have come to an agreement on race dates.
The Ontario Racing Commision asked that the three venues agree on 60 dates.
Leamington would have 15 days in August, September and October.
Dresden would have 13 days in May, June and July and Sarnia would have 32 for the race season.
The agreement must still be approved by the racing commission.
"I think it means it's going to save the harness racing in this area. I don't think we'll ever reach the levels we were at before but I think it was getting to the point where if we were not able to save some of the racing in this area..it would be completely gone," Bain says.
