An 'escaped inmate' from the Windsor Jail has been found by Canada Border Service Agency officers.
Windsor police responded to the jail around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday for a call about an escaped inmate.
Officers learned that a 35-year-old man was released from custody after serving his sentence. CBSA had a hold on the subject and he was supposed to have been escorted back to the United States at the time of his release.
"Once this person was contacted he was very cooperative with officials and arrangements were made and he was escorted back to the United States without incident," says Windsor police Sgt. Matt D’Asti.
Sources tell CTV News the American was serving a 65-day sentence for a sexual assault in Leamington earlier this year.
The Ministry of Safety and Correctional Services is responsible for the inmates at the jail and they are investigating what happened.
