The body of a missing swimmer in Lake Erie off of Pelee Island was found Sunday morning near shore.
Police say four young men were swimming together near Fish Point Provincial Nature Reserve Saturday when one male struggled and did not return to shore with the others. Police were called to the scene just before 2 p.m.
They say the man from Ohio was visiting the Island with friends.
"One of the gentleman, a 20 year old, struggled in the water and the three other gentleman attempted to return him to shore they were unsuccessful," says OPP Const. Jim Root. "As you can understand they're tramatized by this event. It's a very sad situation."
OPP and the Canadian and United States Coast Guards aided in the search in the water and air Saturday. Unsafe conditions Saturday evening meant they had to halt the search.
As they were about to resume the search, a passerby located the swimmer near the shore where he went missing. He has been identified as Jered Grieb of Chardon, Ohio.
