Two 18-year-old males have been arrested after Windsor police say they assaulted a cab driver.

Officers on patrol went to investigate after they heard a continuous horn honking at Ouellette Avenue and Chatham Street on Sunday at 3:15 a.m.

Police say a man two suspects were standing over the victim and one of the suspects proceeded to "stomp" the victim.

The suspects fled the area when they saw the police approach. An officer chased after them on foot. He caught up with the suspect he says stomped the victim and placed him arrest without incident for assault causing bodily harm.

The second male suspect fled the area. He went to Windsor Police Headquarters on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and turned himself in. He also faces charges of assault causing bodily harm.

Investigation revealed three males flagged the cab driver down and were asking to be taken to South Windsor. Inside the cab, the three males allegedly became belligerent towards the driver and were arguing with him over a request for a deposit before he would take them where they wanted to go.

The three males left the cab. One of them apparently threw a can of soda at the victim striking him in the head. The cab driver drove away, but was approached by the suspects again at a red light at Chatham Street and Ouellette Avenue.

The three suspects appeared again and began to shout and swear at the victim. He exited his cab and recalls nothing after that point.

The cab driver was transported to hospital by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. Police say he had cuts to his upper lip both inside and outside and a concussion.

Both accused persons have a court date later this month.
