Three alleged impaired drivers charged in separate incidents in Essex County
Essex County OPP officers charged three alleged impaired drivers in two days.
On Jan. 4 at 8:36 p.m., police responded to a traffic complaint on County Road 12 in Essex.
Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment.
As a result, the 29-year-old Essex resident, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor to speak to the charges on Jan. 16.
On Jan. 4 at 9:28 p.m., OPP responded to a traffic complaint on County Road 22 in Lakeshore.
A good Samaritan called 911 to report a suspected impaired driver and remained with the vehicle that had come to a stop on County Road 22.
Officers arrived on scene and arrested the driver; they were transported to a local OPP detachment.
As a result, a 40-year-old Windsor driver has been charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Resist Peace Officer (Two Counts)
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor to speak to the charges on Jan. 17.
On Jan. 5 at 12:15 a.m., an OPP officer was on patrol when they observed a vehicle being operated by a suspected impaired driver on Erie Street North in Leamington.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver; they were transported to a local OPP detachment.
As a result, a 34-year-old Leamington resident, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor to speak to the charges on Jan. 22.
For all the three drivers, a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
Essex County OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the OPP or your nearest police authority immediately. The OPP can be reached anywhere in the Province of Ontario at 1-888-310-1122.
