Amherstburg police are concerned after a rash of vandalism across town.

Police are investigating an increasing number of mischief calls involving graffiti and tagging. Several local businesses and residences throughout the municipality have been damaged.

Stop signs, public benches and even people's homes are now the target of graffiti artists, using the town of Amhertsburg as their personal canvas.

“Originally it was at abandoned buildings and other locations and now they're actually tagging people's homes," says Const. Shawn McCurdy. "(It is) slang terms, words and pictures, colourful pictures and stuff."

Amhertburg's manager of culture and tourism Anne Rota says municipal crews are getting ready for the spring beautification process

"I think people appreciate and are grateful for the time that is involved so again that civic pride kicks," says Rota.

Police are reminding the community to report any damage or suspicious activity to police. Anyone with information can contact the Amherstburg Police Service at 519-736-3622 or Windsor/Essex Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477.
