The tightest contest expected was in Windsor-Tecumseh.
NDP Cheryl Hardcastle has been declared elected in the riding, defeating Conservative Jo-Anne Gignac, Liberal Frank Schiller and Green Party David Momotiuk.
“I’ll make you proud,” Hardcastle told supporters on Monday night.
“I know that our work isn’t don and I know that my work isn’t done,” she says. “I know this is the start of a new chapter.”
When New Democrat Joe Comartin announced his retirement this year, his normally safe seat went up for grabs.
In Windsor-West, NDP Brian Masse has been declared re-elected, as many expected.
“You can count on us to continue to fight for our community,” says Masse.
He was up against Conservative Henry Lau and Dave Sundin from the Liberals.
Masse says they’ve seen the politics of Stephen Harper in the past leave people behind and he says it looks like “we’re going to get a rerun with the Liberals.”
“We’ll see just how fast they make their quick right turn in the House of Commons towards the Conservatives,”says Masse. “That has been the history of the Liberal party.”
Masse pledged to fight every day to make sure that jobs, the environment and social justice are protected.
In Essex, NDP Tracey Ramsey has been declared the winner. She beat Conservative Jeff Watson, Liberal Audrey Festeryga, and Green Party candidate Jennifer Alderson.
In Chatham-Kent-Leamington, Conservative incumbent Dave Van Kesteren was re-elected, defeating Liberal Katie Omstead, NDP Tony Walsh and Mark Vercouteren from the Green Party.
On a national level, CTV News has declared a Liberal majority government and Conservative opposition.
