Just days after Heinz announced it would be closing its Leamington plant, CTV News has learned the company will be expanding elsewhere.
According to the Heinz about 250 manufacturing jobs are being created three hours down the road in Massillon, Ohio.
The company is planning a $28-million expansion at its Massillon processing plant and will retain 450 existing positions.
Heinz spokesperson Michaael Mullen says the company chose to expand in Massillon because of the plant's central location and its "Need to consolidate frozen food operations into a single North American Center of Excellence.'
Mullen adds that frozen foods were not processed in Leamington and the two decisions are "mutually exclusive."
