Parts of Windsor and Essex County are under a flood watch after increased rainfall over the past few days.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority says some areas have received about 50 millimetres of rain and that forecasts are calling for an additional 10 to 15 mm.

ERCA says the potential for flooding exists throughout the region, especially in low lying areas adjacent to and within floodplain areas on all major waterways.

Windsor, Tecumseh, Essex, Lakeshore and Kingsville are the most affected areas after significant rainfall throughout the morning and afternoon on Sunday.

All north shore waterways will continue to rise through the evening hours, predicts ERCA. All open field areas are holding substantial amounts of standing water, which is now flowing out into receiving floodways.

Standing water in and on roadways in the rural and urban areas should not be assumed to be safe to drive through. ERCA advises extra precaution should be taken in passing through those areas.
