Mayor Drew Dilkens has returned from the big city mayors meeting in Winnipeg.
He says the meetings allow mayors to talk to federal ministers about issues important to their communities.
Dilkens says he was able to speak with Minister of Infrastructure Amarjeet Sohi.
Sohi is the minister responsible for the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
He says the meeting provided an opportunity to ask questions and get more information on the progress of the new bridge.
“People were expecting to see a shovel in the ground already,” says Dilkens “We don't see that yet, but I know things are being worked on diligently behind the scenes to make sure all the required pieces, and necessary pieces are in order in terms of land acquisition and RFP for contract.
“All of those things are put in place so they can actually get that shovel in the ground.”
