It appears the viral sensation of yarn bombing scarves has caught on in Windsor, where bone chilling temperatures have gripped our region.

More than a dozen different hats, gloves and scarves have been hung with care in the downtown, free to those who need them during this Canadian winter.

Following the footsteps of yarn bombers in Ottawa, Windsor's anonymous warming crew has peppered lamp posts, benches and trees near city hall with tags saying "free to a good home".

Many of the hand knitted items dangle in light of the events that transpired earlier this week when a young teenage girl was found unconscious in the cold on Erie Street.

Christine Wilson-Furlonger at Street Help Unit 7 sees first hand just how dire the need is for warm clothes for the homeless in Windsor.

"Imagine needing that item and walking by a park and seeing one on a tree," says Wilson-Furlonger. “It’s an incredible idea! I’m really glad somebody thought of that!"

For those more fortunate, donating in any way shape or form offers warmth and a peace of mind.
