Windsor police say witnesses helped stop a drunk man trying to flee the scene of an accident on Huron Church.

It happened Tuesday at about 12:05 a.m. at the intersection of Huron Church Road and Girardot Avenue.

A 47-year-old man driving a 2000 blue GMC pickup truck north on Huron Church Road made a left turn into the oncoming path of a 2011 Chevrolet passenger vehicle, say police.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the crash. A 40-year-old passenger in the suspect vehicle was complaining of pain to her entire body.

The 20-year-old driver of the Chevrolet suffered a cut to his forehead. A 20-year-old passenger suffered a broken right arm. A 21-year-old passenger complained of pain to his entire body. All involved were sent to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers say one of the drivers was trying to leave the scene on foot but was being held down by witnesses in the 1000 block of Lena Avenue.

The 47-year-old suspect was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, exceeding blood alcohol level and failing to remain. He was transported to hospital with a pain in his leg.

He is expected to appear in court this afternoon.
