Man holding metal object shot by Manitoba RCMP officer during wellness call

Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating after an officer shot and killed a man holding a metal object during a wellness call Tuesday morning.

According to RCMP, officers were called to a home in Dominion City, about 100 kilometres south of Winnipeg, Man. when a 33-year-old man exited a garage on the property carrying a “metal object.”

Mounties said an officer on scene asked the man to drop what he was holding multiple times, but he advanced towards the officer, who shot him.

The man shot by RCMP was airlifted to hospital in critical condition where he died. The officer was not physically injured.

The Independent Investigation Unit is now investigating the shooting and are looking for witnesses. Anyone with information can call 1-844-667-6060.
