Officers with the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society have laid animal cruelty charges against a Windsor woman.

The woman's name will not be released unless a conviction has been made. Sources tell CTV News that the woman is charged with 14 counts of permitting distress to an animal under the Ontario S.P.C.A. Act. Each count carries a possible sentence of two years in jail or a $60,000 fine.

Executive Director of the Humane Society, Melanie Coulter, says seven of the dogs were found at a Bonita Avenue home on June 10th, 2016, and seven other dogs were found abandoned in Windsor and Tecumseh. One dog that was abandoned remains missing.

The dogs have all now been surrendered and remain in the care of the Humane Society, where they are getting treatment for medical conditions and behavioral training. They will be available for adoption in about two weeks.
