A Windsor man, who plead guilty to 15 counts of sexual assault after infecting his partners with the HIV virus, is seeking unescorted absences.

In documents obtained by CTV Windsor from Parole Board Canada, it states that Carl Leone is eligible to seek full parole in 2014, and has been granted a hearing for unescorted absences.

The parole board's appeals division ordered a new hearing last week after an earlier decision in November turned down the request.  In its decision, the appeal panel found an error in law with the original ruling.

In November, the board found Leone had taken some responsibility for his actions, but failed to assume full responsibility of the crimes. The board also characterized him as narcissistic.

Leone was sentenced to 18 years in jail in 2008.
