Construction crews are nailing in the finishing touches on what officials are calling a state-of-the-art family driven YMCA facility located at central park athletics.

It's the newest addition to the YMCA western Ontario family.

A 40,000 square foot, two-storey space, much larger than its current gym that has called Victoria Avenue home since 1974.

"This location and size was the result of significant research in looking into what would be possible for this region,” says Andrew Lockie, YMCA CEO.

Ground was broken last November. Fast forward nine months later and the facility is nearly complete. it could open as early as next month.

The new YMCA has its usual suspects - a gymnasium, weight room, cardio area and change rooms, even one designated for family use.

An additional feature is this six lane pool where a number of aquafit classes will be held.

With the new facility, also comes the launch of new classes - like drum fitness and yoga float.

Currently the YMCA has about 300 members. Officials say this new gym will be able to attract much more. They expect nearly 3000 memberships a year.
