The Windsor Police Service Financial Crimes Unit has received numerous calls about phone spoofing in the city.

Police say people in our community are receiving phone calls at home on "land lines" with the caller I.D. showing their own phone number.

In some cases their own phone number and name is displayed on the phone when it is ringing.  On many occasions when the phone is picked up by the home owner the phone simply goes "dead" and is hung up.

Sometimes an automated voice asks you to press one on your phone in order to "update" your credit card information.

Police say there have been no victims of any fraud at this point, but officers are reminding the public to never give personal information over the phone in cases of unsolicited phone calls.

Police advise if your phone rings and it shows your own information on the display, consider not answering.  If you do answer, remember to be vigilant and never give out your personal information.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4330, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS), online at www.catchcrooks.com, orSubmit a Tip on Facebook.
