It’s a new school year and excitement will be high for many youngsters (perhaps not so high for some) as they head back to school.

Windsor Police want the public to be aware of the added safety issues on a day like today with increased traffic and pedestrians.

Sergeant Mark Quiding of the Traffic Enforcement Branch told AM800 that police will be out in full force this school year.

"Our marked police motorcycles as well as marked cars will be following buses," says Quiding. "We will have unmarked vehicles stationed at various crossings throughout the city to observe various locations."

Motorists are reminded to observe the rules of the roads.

Children may be unpredictable when crossing roads, so be sure to slow down in school zones
