A Windsor man remains in intensive care after a stabbing in the city's west end early Sunday.
Randolph Avenue has seen its share of violence in the past.
"It was 6:30 in the morning when the cops banged on my door, I looked out my window and saw caution tape," says Sydney Sokolovic.
That's when police told them that a man had been stabbed only a few houses away from their home in the 600 block of Randolph.
"It's terrifying but I think it's inevitable," Sokolovic says.
Police say the 26-year-old victim was transported to a Detroit hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect fled the scene.
Hearing Sunday's news brings back dreadful memories for Anisa Sokolvic.
"I pretty much live in paranoia every single day," she says.
That's because she says she was the victim of a stabbing herself.
In November of 2012, Anisa says she was stabbed once in the face and twice in the back with a butcher knife in a dispute in the same neighbourhood.
"I sleep with a hammer near my pillow just in case something happens," she says.
Now the girls work on a buddy system.
"We go everywhere together these days. We don't walk home from school, exam time, if I'm at school I'll ask someone to come meet me, I'm not walking home alone," says Sokolvic.
Windsor police don't have a suspect in custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
