Windsor police investigate ‘suspicious’ explosion at Forest Glade home
Windsor police are actively investigating a “suspicious” explosion that destroyed a house in the city’s Forest Glade neighbourhood.
Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the 10000 block of Aspen Lane around 4 a.m. Sunday for a report of a fire at the house.
Neighbour Randy Sweetman was asleep when he heard the explosion go off.
“The things on my dresser rattled and my windows were rattling so I jumped up to have a look at what it was, I thought maybe a car accident or something like that,” said Sweetman.
“And then when I opened the window and looked out the drapes, I saw the flames shooting up. So I believe there was an explosion first and then there was the fire.”

“I was petrified,” said neighbour Marina Belano. “I’ve never been anywhere near an explosion before and it’s one of those things that you don’t think will ever happen in your lifetime but it happened right behind our house, our home.”
The gas company attended the scene along with the Windsor fire investigator. The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has also sent an investigator.
The explosion has been deemed ‘suspicious’ and Windsor police are investigating. Officers have blocked off pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area.
Fire officials say natural gas has been isolated to the explosion area. Investigators will be conducting a thorough analysis of what caused the explosion.
It is unknown if anyone was inside the home at the time of the fire.
Police warn residents who live nearby to evacuate your home and call 911 if you smell natural gas.
