Windsor police have identified the victim of the city’s second homicide this year.

Police say it was Amir Hayat Malik, a 32-year-old Windsor man. The victim was known to police.

His body was sent to London Friday for an autopsy. The forensic specialist was able to confirm the identity of the victim through fingerprints.

Windsor police were called on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. regarding a dead male located in an alley in the 500 block of Aylmer Avenue.

Police attended the scene and spoke with two men, who discovered the body upon arriving at the rear of a residence they were working at. His body was in an alley behind 563 Brant Street.

“The male had obvious signs of trauma to his body,” says Staff Sgt Mark Denonville. “He was wearing jeans and shoes and was shirtless."

Malik was last seen alive on Thursday, between midnight and 1 a.m. in the 1300 block of Howard Avenue.

CTV News reached the family Friday afternoon and a female relative declined an interview, saying the family is grieving at this time.

Officers in the investigation say there were signs of obvious trauma to the victim's body.

The Glengarry community has been cooperating with police in the investigation. Police say there are no suspects at this time.

“Anytime there's a homicide, it's concerning to us and the community,” says Chief Al Frederick. “It takes a certain priority with us to get that solved as quickly as possible."

The post-mortem examination began at 9 a.m. Friday and is ongoing.
