Police say a 34-year-old man was sent to Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital with a puncture wound to his lower abdomen around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers were called to the 3800 block of McGuire Street for a report of a stabbing.

They say the injuries do not appear life threatening.

A suspect fled the scene and the forensic identification and canine unit assisted with the investigation.

A 39-year-old Belle River man was discovered two hours later in the 700 block of Sandison Street hiding in a nearby yard.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators determined the assault occurred between the two men after the suspect entered his ex-girlfriend’s home and confronted the current boyfriend.

An altercation occurred at which time the suspect grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim.

A weapon was recovered at the scene.

The suspect is tentatively facing charges of assault with a weapon and breaching a probation order prohibiting him from having alcohol.
