Nurses at Windsor Regional Hospital and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare were honoured on Tuesday.

The hospitals held a special ceremony to recognize nursing excellence and continuing education efforts.

Winners of the Jeanne Mance Extraordinary Nursing Care Awards, which go to a nurse who continually goes above and beyond to provide compassionate and professional care to patients and exemplifies teamwork, compassion, stewardship and respect:

Lina Akile and Jane Siminovski, from Windsor Regional, earned the honours. From HDGH, it was Taskia Cartier and Natalie Zegarac.

Four nurses were also named as the recipients of the annual Lori Dupont Bursary, which assists staff with continuing education costs. Each successful candidate is awarded up to $1,000. The Bursary recipients were: Sue Ladouceur and Sheryl Johnson of HDGH, and Andreea Duma and Sharra Hodgins of WRH.

WRH also announced its latest winners of the Daisy Award, which is presented to nurses who demonstrate excellence in the profession, as nominated on behalf of the patients they served. The Daisy winners were Krista Shamblaw, Jackie St. Denis and Martin Gagne.

HDGH also announced the winner of its Founders award, which is presented to a nurse who has shown compassion and dedication to supporting nursing care in the community. The award went to Janet Bezaire. As well, WRH’s Diversity Committee also announced Erikka Johnson as its Global Mitra award winner.
