The Mounted Police has laid terrorism charges in absentia against 27 year old Ahmad Waseem.

Waseem is charged with facilitating a terrorist group.

The RCMP said Waseem went to Syria in November 2013 to fight for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

In March an academic researcher told CTV News Waseem was killed by Kurdish forces in Tal Hamis.

Amarnath Amarasingam from Dalhousie University said he’d been told by two fighters that body had been discovered, and it strongly resembled Ahmad Waseem.

However, RCMP says it has no information to confirm his death.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Waseem and Interpol has been notified.
