A Windsor man has died as a result of his injuries following an industrial accident in Tecumseh Wednesday.

The 51-year-old man was struck by a large steal beam while working at R.J. Cyr Company Inc., according to Essex County OPP.

A ministry spokesperson says the incident involved a worker bracing a conveyor component for painting when it fell over, striking the worker.  The worker was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased.

Provincial police along with Essex-Windsor EMS and Tecumseh Fire responded to the call around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police and the Ministry of Labour are investigating as to how he was struck by the beam that weighed about 1200 pounds.

The name of the worker is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This is the 39th investigation by the Ministry of Labour involving a workplace accident in Windsor Essex since April.

It is also the second workplace fatality in the region in two weeks.

Brian Hogan, the President of the Windsor and District Labour Council, says more needs to be done to prevent workplace fatalities.

Hogan tells CTV Windsor these latest incidents should be a wake up call for the broader community to push for better workplace safety.
