Chatham-Kent OPP say a 29-year-old Windsor man has been charged after passing a police cruiser on Highway 401 during the winter storm on Sunday.

While an officer was conducting a slowdown, he says a Buick vehicle attempted to pass his police vehicle.  The officer obtained a speed reading on the vehicle, which apparently exceeded the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr.

Ryan Turgeon, 29, was charged with careless driving.

OPP officers were using a proactive approach during Sunday’s storm, by conducting continual traffic slowdowns. Police wanted to keep motorists safe and traveling at an appropriate speed for the deteriorating weather and road conditions.

In the aftermath on Monday and Tuesday, officers have been asking motorists  to be cautious as emergency crews continue to remove vehicles from the ditch and median along the highway.
