Windsor police say a local man was arrested as part of international child pornography investigation, Project Spade.
Sgt. Matt D’Asti tells CTV News, a Windsor man was arrested in January 2012 as part of an investigation that started with Toronto Police. Investigators revealed Thursday that 341 people, including 58 Canadians, have been arrested.
D’Asti says the Windsor man was charged with accessing child pornography and possessing child pornography. The man pled guilty on the possession charge and was sentenced to 14 days in jail. He has since served his time.
Insp. Joanna Beaven-Desjardins says Toronto police first became aware in 2010 that Toronto-based Azov Films was distributing pornographic images and videos of children as well as streaming them on its website.
The company was shut down in 2011 and its owner, Brian Way, was arrested. Way was charged with multiple counts related to child pornography, including selling and distributing child pornography and instructing commission of offence for criminal organization.
According to police, the company had been operating since 2005 and had revenues in excess of $4-million.
