A Windsor family could get about $6 million for 60 acres of land that is recommended for the new mega hospital.

The preferred site for the acute care hospital chosen by the volunteer site selection committee is at County Road 42 and Concession 9, which happens to be the O’Keefe family farm.

The land has been in the O'Keefe family for more than 100 years.

“For generations, my family earned a living in these fields, and now my family is ecstatic with the idea that such a project would be located on our land," says Sean O'Keefe.

The land was originally in Tecumseh proper, but was transferred to Windsor in 2003 for future development.

The 60 acres required for the hospital will be purchased for roughly $100,000 an acre, pending approval from the province.

The hospital plans still have to be approved by the Ministry of Health.
