This year’s annual Easter Seals telethon in Windsor-Essex is being hailed a success.

The 36th annual show, which was broadcast live on CTV Windsor on Sunday, raised $176,453 for children and youth with physical disabilities. That beats the goal of $145,000.

Telethon Chair Jim Morrison is thrilled with the support from the community.

“The number always astounds me every year,” says Morrison.”For all these kids that need wheelchairs and van-lifts and everything else, thank you so much.”

Through donations, the telethon provides financial assistance for equipment, communication devices and a chance for kids to attend day camp in London.

Past Chair Mike Kelly says the money raised won't just help the children.

“It's tough for the parents too, financially. Also, when they go to camp that's a break for the family. The kids can go and be with their peers."

Easter Seals ambassador Damian Fitzpatrick says he enjoys being at the camp and doing everyday things.

“I get to go to sleep. I get to eat breakfast in the morning."

Co-ambassador Faith Turner says the support from Easter Seals aids in her day-to-day life.

“Easter Seals helps us feel like we're accepted and helps us."

The telethon included a number of local broadcast personalities, business people and community leaders.
