Environment Canada says southwestern Ontario could get up to up to 15 or 20 centimetres of snow by Wednesday night.

The City of Windsor is prepared for the snowstorm impacting the area Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Windsor officials say the city’s 21 salt trucks are focusing on the main routes as the first priority. Depending on the temperature and snow accumulation overnight, roads may be snow-covered for the Wednesday morning commute.

One complete pass of a salting route can take between two and four hours, depending on the time of day and traffic conditions, according to a city release.

Police are warning motorists to drive according to weather and road conditions and to slow down.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the area.

Forecasters say mixtures of wet snow and rain ahead of the winter storm centre hit extreme southwestern Ontario first.

The mixed precipitation will spread into south-central Ontario and then into eastern Ontario Wednesday.
