A husband and a wife have been recognized for their quick actions in pulling a Windsor woman out of a house fire.

At a ceremony Monday morning, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services recognized the efforts of Mike and Muffy Sleiman, who helped Patricia Malicki escape a fire at her home in the city’s east-side on Jan. 10.

“Mike and Muffy’s actions in the face of this truly unfortunate event are an example to all of us,” said fire Chief Bruce Montone. “Their heart, their quick thinking, and their complete lack of hesitation were the very definition of heroism.”

Malicki would later succumb to her injuries. She was 67 years old.

Malicki is remembered for her efforts to save such culturally significant buildings as Mackenzie Hall and serving with the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario.

The couple was awarded a civilian citation for their valiant actions.
