A local artist is trying to break a Guinness World Record for the world's largest photo mosaic.

He's launched a crowd-funding campaign on kick-starter to help pay for it.

The super-sized mosaic will feature one of Hollywood's most notorious actors: Nicolas Cage.

"He can choose any movie he wants and I'll see it," says Thom Malone, the artist behind the installation.

Malone says Cage is an iconic actor whose career he’s followed closely. Now, he wants to pay homage to the actor in a unique way.

"I have had an ironic crush on Nicolas Cage for as long as I can remember," says Malone. "We're just here to live once, so why not just do something potentially awesome."

Malone first launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for the mosaic as a joke. $27,000 was pledged in less than a week, but he later took it down.

On Monday, he re-launched the campaign.

He plans to raise $52,000 dollars in pledges and find a space in Windsor large enough to accommodate a 21,646 square metre mosaic.

"When I think about it, it will be as large as an empty airport hangar," says Malone.

He needs to collect 180,000 individual photos.

Local marketing expert Vincent Georgie says the idea could gain traction if the right people see it.

"For people that see the creative value, and the tongue-and-cheek aspect, could see some value in this," says Georgie.

$15,000 has already been pledged to the campaign.

"If this idea gets funded, it just goes to show the power the internet can have," says Malone.

The installation will be unveiled somewhere in Windsor, on Labour Day.
