Windsor and Essex County is cleaning up after being drenched by quick and heavy rainfall.

Several streets, parks and basements across the region are filled with water after an 65 millimetres of rain fell in a four hour period in Windsor. However, in the county things were much worse.

Environment Canada says some of the communities closest to Lake Erie received 120 millimetres of rain.

Essex resident Christine Presland Dinney says she received eight inches of rain in her basement – damaging furniture and other items.  Scott Boggs, a homeowner in the Kingsway Subdivision, saw 22 inches of water in his basement.

The weather authority issued a special weather statement on Tuesday, ahead of the latest deluge. The Essex County Conservation Authority also issued a flood watch for low-lying areas.
