Two Wallaceburg men were fined $5,500 for night hunting offences.
The incident took place on March 8, 2012. Chatham-Kent police got a call about gunshots at night on Mud Creek Line.
Officers went to the area and turned the investigation over to Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers, who say Corby Knight and Cody Haskell were illegally hunting at night.
Knight and Haskell both pleaded guilty.
Knight was fined $1,500 for careless use of a firearm, $1,000 for unlawfully hunting deer at night, $500 for unlawfully possessing an unencased firearm at night and $1,000 for hunting deer during the closed season.
His shotgun, rifle, gun case and ammunition were permanently forfeited to the Crown.
Cody Haskell was fined $500 for unlawfully hunting deer at night, $250 for using a light to hunt at night and $750 for hunting deer during the closed season.
Both men also received a probation order for two years and are prohibited from possessing a license to hunt or hunting by any means. They were ordered to complete a hunter safety education course.
Justice of the Peace Malcolm Rogers heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on April 17.
