What started as a verbal argument in Chatham-Kent, ended with a Wallaceburg man’s arrest.

According to Chatham-Kent police the man attended a woman’s residence in the township just north of Chatham on Saturday. That’s when police say an argument broke out and the man started throwing items on the floor causing damage.

Officers say the man allegedly assaulted the woman, but she was able to flee the residence with minor injuries.  The man was also in possession of a handgun.

Police arrived on scene shortly before 8 a.m. on Sunday to find the man still inside the residence.

The 29-year-old was arrested and charged with overcoming resistance to choking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, mischief under $5,000, failing to comply with a prohibited order, two counts of assault and four counts of failing to comply.

The man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
