Three days after a police standoff failed to get the suspects, Essex County OPP officers have arrested two Windsor residents for a break and enter in Comber.

Both suspects were arrested Saturday in Windsor, without incident.

The break-in happened just after midnight on Thursday. Police say an elderly couple woke up when they heard a man break into their house on Main Street.

After a brief struggle, the suspect left on foot and joined a female suspect who had not entered the house.

The male resident suffered minor injuries to his face, but didn’t require medical attention. He called police.

The Essex County canine unit and emergency response team tracked the suspects to a house on Knapp Road, about one kilometre from the scene of the break and enter. The OPP tactical response unit from London and a crisis negotiator were also called to the scene.

At about 7:15 am, the occupants exited the house. Police say after an interview, it was determined they were not related to the break and enter.

OPP Const. Stephanie Moniz says police officers were doing their due diligence.

“I certainly wouldn't call it a mistake because based on the information that the officers had at the time, is what took them to the residence on Knapp Road," says Moniz.

Steven Cocks-Case, 25, has been charged with break and enter and commit the offence of assault with a weapon, possession of marijuana and use of an imitation firearm to commit an indictable offence.

Kristin Lees, 23, has been charged with break and enter and commit the offence of assault with a weapon and possession of marijuana.

Both have been remanded into custody.
