Two people are in Windsor police custody in connection to a massive fire at the former Windsor Bumper Manufacturing Plant.

On Thursday, officers arrested a 16-year-old Windsor teenager and an 18-year-old Tecumseh man – both have been charged with arson causing damage to property.

Windsor fire crews were called to the 9100 block of Tecumseh Road East on June 25 after large plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing from the former Wickes Windsor Bumper Manufacturing Plant. It took crews nearly 12 hours to extinguish the blaze.

Investigators determined shortly after that the fire was intentionally set and that the building sustained $1-million in damage.

"I credit the dedication and teamwork of all officers involved in this case for the timely arrest of these suspects," said police Chief Al Frederick in a statement.

The 16-year-old has been released to his parents on the promise to appear in court, while the 18-year-old will be release Friday afternoon on the promise to appear court.

Investigators are still asking for the public to come forward with any additional information.
